5x5 Video: Driving
For this project, we were asked to make a video about something we enjoy doing. One of my favorite things is driving, so that was the topic I chose.
For the video, we needed five 5-second shots to visually illustrate what it is we enjoy. I took a number of shots that lasted longer than 5 seconds in case my shots weren't as good or the correct angle as would best fit in the video. I wanted to get the different parts of driving.
I drive a stick shift, so I knew that would give me slightly more interesting options than if I drove an automatic, which is another reason why I enjoy driving.
I tried to match the music so as more started to happen, it would speed up and become more exciting, the same way I feel about driving. The music that I used was a clip from Hybrid's "Mr Smith." I felt like a number of Hybrid songs would work out well, but with the build up I was trying to achieve and my final shot, this clip from this song made the most sense.
As I knew the sound of my engine starting and running from inside my car wouldn't be as loud or prominent as I wanted it to be, I made sure that after I got my shots of starting the car, pressing the accelerator, and shifting gears, I held my camera outside my car, while parked, to get better sound, as I didn't have an audio recorder.
The final shot of me driving and passing the yellow car was captured by me clamping the camera down between the top of the passenger-side seat and the headrest. I would drive to and from school as well as a trip to Pennsylvania with the camera on during interesting parts of the drive.
